This is a list of issues that may result in video problems while running a game. Take2 Support HIGHLY recommends that each of these be performed in the order listed here.
1. Does your system meet minimum requirements?
The first thing to check when experiencing any trouble running a game is the game's minimum system requirements against your computer system. The minimum requirements for the game can usually be found on the bottom or the back of the box. If you do not meet all of the game's minimum requirements, it will not run correctly on your computer. Additionally, some games will have recommended system requirements that must be met in order to experience all the features of the game. See the Minimum Requirements Guide for more information.
2. Issues with Background Tasks
Background tasks are programs that run in the background which use system resources, such as memory and processor time. Sometimes these will result in poor game performance, causing problems like choppy video. Checking what applications are running in the background and turning them off before playing games is recommended. See the Background Tasks Guide for more information.
3. Issues with DirectX
DirectX is a Windows standard for running games and allows game manufacturers to design a game that will work with the majority of all computer systems. If a video issue persists, it is recommended that you check the status of DirectX and your display adapter drivers. See the DirectX Guide for more information.
4. Issues with Drivers
Often software will not run correctly unless you have the latest drivers installed for your sound card. Some manufacturers update their drivers regularly, and you should keep your system up to date to maintain maximum compatibility. To determine what driver(s) you currently have installed, use DXDIAG (see the DXDIAG section for more information on this tool). Once you checked the version number of your driver, you can look at the manufacturer's website to see if there is a more current one. A list of hardware manufacturers can be found here (link). Be advised that Take2 cannot assist you with downloading, installing/uninstalling or troubleshooting drivers. If you have any problems, you need to consult your hardware documentation and/or contact the hardware manufacturer. Also be advised that installing drivers on your own may void your computer warranty. Again, check your computer's documentation or with your computer manufacturer on these kinds of issues as these warranty agreements rest between you (the consumer) and your hardware manufacturer, not with Take2 Support.
5. Check Display Settings
Display mode switching (32 bit True Color from 16 bit High Color mode) may cause incompatibilities with some games. VideoCard driver updates usually resolve this. However, if the problem continues, changing the display mode down to 800 x 600 and 16 Bit High Color. See the Display Settings Guide for more information.
6. Check your Monitor settings
Right-click on the Desktop and choose Properties from the menu. Click the Settings tab, then the Advanced Properties button. Click the Monitor tab (this may say "Unknown, Default or Standard"). Click the Change button, and after Windows builds the driver information database, select the proper monitor type by clicking on Show all hardware Standard Monitor Type & Plug And Play is usually the correct choice; check with your monitor or system manufacturer if you are unsure). Click Apply, then Ok or Close, and restart the system when prompted. _________________ Thanks,
